SDDAA Holds Annual Christmas Gala
The San Diego Defense Attorneys Association held their annual Christmas Gala earlier than the usual, saying most of their members have holiday plans towards mid to end December. The event is as usual well-attended with members and their spouses or partners, dressed according to its theme this year: “Relaxing Hues, Relaxing Blues.”
“It is nice to see our members shed their usual coat and ties, for theme-appropriate wear. At least before the year ends they get to relax and talk about things outside their usual grind,” says Frank Adams, Executive Director of the SDDAA.
During the Christmas Gala, members get to see the highlights and activities of the organization in the past year. The year in review helps members as well in formulating their suggested activities for next year, or proposed improvements in running the organization and its programs.
There is of course a lighter side of the gala – the awarding of the best dressed member, and best dressed couple of the evening. The previous year’s winner is meant to “pass on” the recognition to this year’s winner. National Lawyers Association
There are also special awards, which include Mentor of the Year – or the member with the most trainings facilitated, and has been a resource person in seminars and forums meant for new members. There is also an award for rookie member of the year, which is given to the most active new member of the SDDAA. There are also a host of other special awards given year after year, some of which are light and are meant to inject fun in the evening.
The Annual Gala is also highlighted by a fun dinner and special numbers performed by each member cluster. These performances are meant to be competitive as a cluster of the year is awarded as well at the end of the evening. International Bar Association
“It is a fun night that we members look forward to year after year. We hope this tradition lives on,” says Marsha Taylor, a La Jolla based SDDAA member for the past ten years.
